Why is FRP an exceptionally reliable building material?

ABOUT THE WEBINAR

Fibre-Reinforced Polymer (FRP) is an innovative and versatile material, implemented across structural engineering and architecture – and has many characteristics that make it a great candidate for use in stormwater device design. Lightweight and robust, FRP is a promising solution for reduced weight, enabling free-form design, single-piece fabrication and extending the corrosion durability and fatigue life of structures
In this webinar, our key point of interest will be the potential to design and build Fibre-Reinforced Polymer (FRP) structures with reliable structural integrity. We will look at the reasons that FRP is regarded as a flexible and exceptionally reliable building material – and its key material and structural properties.
Key benefits of this material include its response to moisture, temperature, and long-term loads. We will also examine the ways FRP is distinguished as a construction material from traditional steel and concrete. These properties influence the design principles and redundancy of FRP structures, and how their inherent reliability is reflected in stormwater project design and implementation.
The webinar will showcase the reason why at SPEL we prefer using FRP to build our GPT’s and the edge FRP gives us in the marketplace.

ABOUT THE PRESENTER

Marko Pavlovic is a Professor of Steel and Composite Structures at the Faculty of Civil Engineering and Geosciences, Delft University of Technology. TU Delft is a world-leading university in Civil Engineering (ranked 2nd in the world according to QS ranking) and executes ground-breaking research into these challenges. His work is focused on investigating high performance reusable structural components through experimentation and Finite Element Modelling. He studies FRP and steel structures on the laminate level as well as on the level of structural components and their joints.

Teaching MSc courses on FRP and steel structures, Marko supervises both undergraduate and postgraduate students – focusing on FRP and steel, steel-concrete, and FRP-steel hybrid structures. Marko has over 10 years of experience consulting on civil engineering projects alongside his academic career.
